Many people simply regard Pride and Prejudice as a love story, but in myopinion, this book is an illustration of the society at that time. She perfectlyreflected the relation between money and marriage at her time and gave thepeople in her works vivid characters.
The characters have their own personalities. Mrs. Bennet is a woman whomakes great efforts to marry off her daughters. Mr. Bingley is a friendly youngman, but his friend, Mr. Darcy, is a very proud man who seems to always feelsuperior. Even the five daughters in Bennet family are very different. Jane issimple, innocent and never speaks evil of others. Elizabeth is a clever girl whoalways has her own opinion.
Mary likes reading classic books. (Actually she is a pedant.) Kitty doesn’thave her own opinion but likes to follow her sister, Lydia. Lydia is a girl whofollows exotic things, handsome man, and is somehow a little profligate. When Iread the book, I can always find the same personalities in the society now. Thatis why I think this book is indeed the representative of the society in Britainin the 18th century.
The family of gentleman in the countryside is Jane Austen’s favouritetopic. But this little topic can reflect big problems. It concludes the stratumsituation and economic relationships in Britain in her century. You can findthese from the very beginning of this book.
Austen left this problem for us to think. The genius of Jane Austen lies inthis perfect simplicity, the simplicity that reflects big problems. AlthoughAusten was only 21 when she wrote “Pride and Prejudice”, her sharp observationof social lives makes the style of this book surprisingly mature and lively.
The plots in her works are always very natural. The development of the plotis as inevitable as a problem in mathematics. I think the depth of Pride andPrejudice is the reason that makes this book prominent and classic. Today, herbook still can be the guide telling us the economic relationships both at hertime and in modern time.

Jane Eyre is a first-person narrative of the title character, a small, plain-faced, intelligent and honest English orphan. The novel goes through five distinct stages: Jane's childhood at Gateshead, where she is abused by her aunt and cousins; her education at Lowood School, where she acquires friends and role models but also suffers privations; her time as the governess of Thornfield Manor, where she falls in love with her Byronic employer, Edward Rochester; her time with the Rivers family at Marsh's End (or Moor House) and Morton, where her cold clergyman-cousin St John Rivers proposes to her; and her reunion with and marriage to her beloved Rochester at his house of Ferndean. Partly autobiographical, the novel abounds with social criticism and sinister gothic elements.

I have got a lot of interesting scientific knowledge from the books of National Geographic Reading Expeditions, some of which are about life, physics. I really can’t help losing myself in the colorful pictures and clear words in the books. After reading the books, I have been considering a question: What if we lived without science? Great changes have taken place in the world with the help of science. In the past, life was nasty, brutish and short. It is hard to imagine how our forefathers could do without so many conveniences that modern science brings about. Back then, only a small group of people enjoyed the very few forts. But the majority of people didn’t even have sufficient food, let along their privilege to be educated. Anyway, it is science that changes the world and makes people’s life better and better, although it also leads to some bad aspects at the same time.

Recently,I have just finished reading a famous novel written by Margaret mitchell—“Gone with the Wind”,which is one of the most popular works among American novels. It took the auther about 10 years to finish this great novel, the only novel in her life. The story happened during the Civil War eve.Scarlett O'Hara,a 16-year-old girl, who was living in Tala manor in Georgia, was loving her neighbor Ashley Wilkes. However, after the war have broken out, Ashley Wilkes married his yonger cousin Melanie. Scarlett was so angry that she decided to marry a man she didn?t really love---- Charles Hamilton. Not long after that, Charles Hamilton joined the Army and died of illness in the war.So Scarlett had to act as a widow.Afterwards,at a donating dance party,Scarlett is acquainted with a captain named Rhett Butler. Then the flames of war approached Atlanta.Everyone was busy leaving away from the war.Scarlett managed to escape from Atlanta with the help of captain Rhett.Having come back to Tala manor,Scarlett made up her mind to rally her homeland at any cost when she saw that the former manor had been ruined.Later, her second husband died in the fight, she was a widow again.Durling that time, Rhett had been loving Scarlett sincerely and warmly.Seeing that Rhett could help her rally the manor,Scarlett married
him.Although Rhett had similar characteristic attracting her,Scarlett still loved Ashley.Later, their only daughter died accidently,Rhett left Scarlett sorrowly. And then Scarlett realized that Rhett was the only one who could fall in love with her.
The novel takes the US Civil War as the background. It takes Scarlett?s individual activity as the thread. The book show us a tragic love story .A couple who could have a perfect future, but finnally go in opposite direction. As a matter of fact, their charactristics have decided their tragic result inevitably. We feel sorry about the end because we are looking forward to a perfect end, just like Scarlett and Rhett. In fact, ferfect is always a excessive damand.
I affirm Rhett. He brings excitement to Scarlett?s life and encourages her impulse to change and succeed.Like Scarlett,he goes after what he wants and refuses to take ?no? for an answer. He is humorous, intelligent and cynical with a hint of treason. He is really a respectable man.I think he finnally left because of love .Otherwise,he couldn?t have gone without hesitation.
Ashley Wilkes is the foil to Rhett?s dark, realistic opportunism. If there was no Civil War,he is surely a nobility of grace and charm. But history cannot be changed. He bocame a victim of the war.His era was gone with the defeat of the war.At the same time,we cannot deny the
fact that he had a chear understanding about reality, which just contribute to his tragedy.
In this book, what I appreciate most is not Melanie?skindness or Rheet?s dedication and patience, but Scarlett?s courage to throw her long-standing morality and tradition whe faced with diffiiculties. At the beginning of the war,she didn?t care about this.In her world are endless dinner parties and dance parties. In her body are her father?s brave Irish blood and her mother?s noble French pure blood. She had a vast farm as her home. She had hundreds of slaves. This is Scarlett.,a member of noblity, proud and different. However, the war changed everything. Her mother died of illness. Her father become silent and the farm was nearly deserted.Even food became a big problem. All the pressure was put on Scarlett?s shoulder. She must feed a family of 9 people in it.What a big difference of level. If all this happened to someone else,he or she may choose to escape. On the contrary,Scarlett choose to face the change of life bravely. How can we not admire her courage of to change herself.Life is like a mountain. The road can?t be completely smooth. When we fall down from the peak,we may get hert ,we may get disappointed,we may feel despair. But if you want to survive, you must stand up to face it.
It is obvious that <> is really a good book, even if a long time has passed away,it is still suitable for today?s
society. It is of great importance to change ourselves, change our value even our thoughts when our life chages.
On the other hand,I think there is no real perfect in the world.Everybody has his shortcomings. It is necessary for us to learn to forgive others? faults. If we keep good-tempered,Ibelieve there will be more comedy and less tragedy.

I first read "Jane Eyre" in eighth grade and have read it every few years since. It is one of my favorite novels, and so much more than a gothic romance to me, although thats how I probably would have defined it at age 13. I have always been struck, haunted in a way, by the characters - Jane and Mr. Rochester. They take on new depth every time I meet them.。.and theirs is a love story for the ages.
Charlotte Brontes first published novel, and her most noted work, is a semi-autobiographical coming-of-age story. Jane is plain, poor, alone and unprotected, but due to her fierce independence and strong will she grows and is able to defy societys expectations of her. This is definitely feminist literature, published in 1847, way before the beginning of any feminist movement. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why the novel has had such a wide following since it first came on the market. It is also one of the first gothic romances published and defines the genre.
Jane Eyre, who is our narrator, was born into a poor family. Her parents died when she was a small child and the little girl was sent to live with her Uncle and Aunt Reed at Gateshead. Janes Uncle truly cared for her and showed his affection openly, but Mrs. Reed seemed to hate the orphan, and neglected her while she pampered and spoiled her own children. This unfair treatment emphasized Janes status as an unwanted outsider. She was often punished harshly. On one occasion her nasty cousin Jack picked a fight with her. Jane tried to defend herself and was locked in the terrifying "Red Room" as a result. Janes Uncle Reed had died in this room a little while before, and Mrs. Reed knew how frightened she was of the chamber. Since Jane is the narrator, the reader is given a first-hand impression of the childs feelings, her heightened emotional state at being imprisoned. Indeed, she seems almost like an hysterical child, filled with terror and rage. She repeatedly calls her condition in life "unjust" and is filled with bitterness. Looking into the mirror Jane sees a distorted image of herself. She views her reflection and sees a "strange little figure," or "tiny phantom." Jane has not learned yet to subordinate her passions to her reason. Her passions still erupt unchecked. Her isolation in the Red Room is a presentiment of her later isolation from almost every society and community. This powerful, beautifully written scene never fails to move me.
Mrs. Reed decided to send Jane away to the Lowood School, a poor institution run by Mr. Brocklehurst, who believed that suffering made grand people. All the children there were neglected, except to receive harsh punishment when any mistake was made. At Lowood, Jane met Helen Burns, a young woman a little older than Jane, who guided her with vision, light and love for the rest of her life. Janes need for love was so great. It really becomes obvious in this first friendship. Helen later died from fever, in Janes arms. Her illness and death could have been avoided if more attention had been paid to the youths. Jane stayed at Lowood for ten years, eight as a student and two as a teacher. Tired and depressed by her surroundings, Jane applied for the position of governess and found employment at Thornfield. The mansion is owned by a gentleman named Edward Fairfax Rochester. Her job there was to teach his ward, an adorable little French girl, Adele. Over a long period the moody, inscrutable Rochester confides in Jane and she in him. The two form an unlikely friendship and eventually fall in love. Again, Janes need for love comes to the fore, as does her passionate nature. She blooms. A dark, gothic figure, Rochester also has a heart filled with the hope of true love and future happiness with Jane. Ironically, he has brought all his misery, past and future, on himself.
All is not as it seems at Thornfield. There is a strange, ominous woman servant, Grace Poole, who lives and works in an attic room. She keeps to herself and is rarely seen. From the first, however, Jane has sensed bizarre happenings at night, when everyone is asleep 。There are wild cries along with violent attempts on Rochesters life by a seemingly unknown person. Jane wonders why no one investigates Mrs. Poole. Then a strange man visits Thornfield and mysteriously disappears with Mr. Rochester. Late that night Jane is asked to sit with the man while the lord of the house seeks a doctors help. The man has been seriously wounded and is weak from loss of blood. He leaves by coach, in a sorry state, first thing in the morning. Janes questions are not answered directly. This visit will have dire consequences on all involved. An explosive secret revealed will destroy all the joyful plans that Jane and Rochester have made. Jane, once more will face poverty and isolation.
Charlotte Brontes heroine Jane Eyre, may not have been graced with beauty or money, but she had a spirit of fire and was filled with integrity and a sense of independence - character traits that never waned in spite of all the oppression she encountered in life. Ms. Bronte brings to the fore in "Jane Eyre" such issues as: the relations between men and women in the mid-19 century, womens equality, the treatment of children and of women, religious faith and hypocrisy (and the difference between the two), the realization of selfhood, and the nature of love and passion. This is a powerhouse of a novel filled with romance, mystery and passions. It is at once startlingly fresh and a portrait of the times. Ms. Bronte will make your heart beat faster, your pulse race and your eyes fill with tears.

All that morning I was frightened that my sister would discover that I had stolen from her,but luckily she was so busy cleaning the house, and roasting the chickens for our Christmas lunch that she did not notice that I had been out,or that any food was missing. At half-past one our two guests arrived.Mr Wopsle had a large nose and a shining, bald forehead, and was the church clerk.Mr Pumblechook, who had a shop in the nearest town, was a fat,middle-aged man witn a mouth like a fish, and staring eyes.He was really Joe's uncle but it was Mrs Joe who called him uncle.Every Christmas Day he arrived with two bottles of wine, handing them proudly to my sister.
‘Oh Uncle Pumblechook! This is kind!’she always replied.
‘It's no more than you deserve,’was the answer every time.
Sitting at table with these guests I would have felt uncomfortable even if I hadn't robbed my sister. Not only was Pumblechook's elbow in my eye,but I wasn't allowed to speak, and they gave me the worst pieces of meat.Even the chickens must have been ashamed of those parts of their bodies when they were alive. And worse than that, the adults never left me in peace.
‘Before we eat,let us thank God for the food in front of us,’said Mr Wopsle,in the deep voice he used in church.
‘Do you hear that?’whispered my sister to me.‘Be grateful!’
‘Especially,’said Mr Pumblechook firmly,‘be grateful, boy,to those who brought you up by hand.’
‘Why are the young never grateful?’wondered Mr Wopsle sadly.
‘Their characters are naturally bad,’answered Mr Pumblechook, and all three looked unpleasantly at me.
When there were guests,Joe's position was even lower than usual(if that was possible),but he always tried to help me if he could.Sometimes he comforted me by giving me extra gravy. He did that now.
‘Just imagine, boy,’said Mr Pumblechook,‘if your sister hadn't brought you up—’
‘You listen to this,’said my sister to me crossly.
‘If,as I say,she hadn't spent her life looking after you, where would you be now?’
Joe offered me more gravy.
‘He was a lot of trouble to you, madam,’Mr Wopsle said sympathetically to my sister.
‘Trouble?’she cried.‘Trouble?’And then she started on a list of all my illnesses, accidents and crimes, while everybody except Joe looked at me with disgust.Joe added more gravy to the meat swimming on my plate, and I wanted to pull Mr Wopsle's nose.
In the end Mrs Joe stopped for breath, and said to Mr Pumblechook,‘Have a little brandy, uncle. There is a bottle al-ready open.’
It had happened at last! Now she would discover I had stolen some brandy, and put water in the bottle.Mr Pumblechook held his glass up to the light, smiled importantly at it and drank it.When, immediately afterwards,he jumped up and began to rush round the room in a strange wild dance,we all stared at him in great surprise. Was he mad?I wondered if I had murdered him,but if so,how? At last he threw himself gasping into a chair, crying ‘Medicine!’Then I understood.Instead of filling up the brandy bottle with water,I had put Mrs Joe's strongest and most unpleasant medicine in by mistake. That was what the big brown bottle contained.
‘But how could my medicine get into a brandy bottle?’asked my sister.Fortunately she had no time to find the answer,as Mr Pumblechook was calling for a hot rum to remove the taste of the medicine.‘And now,’she said, when the fat man was calmer,‘you must all try Uncle Pumblechook's pre-sent to us!A really delicious meat pie!’
‘That's right,Mrs Joe!’said Mr Pumblechook, looking more cheerful now.‘ Bring in the pie!’
‘You shall have some,Pip,’said Joe kindly.
I knew what would happen next.I could not sit there any longer.I jumped down from the table, and ran out of the room.
But at the front door I ran straight into a group of soldiers.Mrs Joe was saying as she came out of the kitchen,‘The pie-has-gone!’but stopped when she saw the soldiers.
‘Excuse me,ladies and gentlemen,’said the officer in charge.‘I'm here in the King's name,and I want the black-smith.’
‘And why do you want him?’said my sister crossly.
‘Madam,’replied the officer Politely,‘speaking for myself,I'd like the pleasure of meeting his fine wife.Speaking for the King,I'd like him to repair these handcuffs.’
‘Ah,very good,very good!’ said Mr Pumblechook,clap-ping.
The soldiers waited in the kitchen while Joe lit the forge fire and started work.I began to feel better now that everyone had forgotten the missing pie.
‘How far are we from the marshes?’asked the officer.
‘About a mile,’replied Mrs Joe.
‘ That's good.We'll catch them before it's dark.’
‘ Convicts,officer?’asked Mr Wopsle.
‘Yes,two escaped convicts out on the marshes.Has anyone here seen them?’
The others all shook their heads.Nobody asked me.When the handcuffs were ready,Joe suggested we should go with the soldiers, and as Mrs Joe was curious to know what happened, she agreed. So Joe,Mr wopsle and I walked behind the men through the village and out on to the marshes.
‘ I hope we don't find those poor men,Joe,’I whispered.
‘ I hope not either,Pip,’he whispered back.It was cold, with an east wind blowing from the sea,and it was getting dark.
Suddenly we all stopped. We heard shouts in the distance.
‘This way!Run!’the officer ordered, and we all rushed in that direction. The shouts became clearer.‘ Murder!’‘Escaped convict!’‘Help!’At last we discovered two men fighting each other. One was my convict, and the other was the man who had run away when I had seen him near the shelter.Somehow the soldiers held the men apart and put the hand-cuffs on them.
‘Here he is,I'm holding him for you!’shouted my convict.
‘Officer,he tried to murder me!’cried the other man.His face was bleeding and he was clearly very frightened.
‘ Murder him! No,’said the first,‘ that would be too easy.I want him to suffer more, back on the prison-ship.He's lying,as he did at our trial! You can't trust Compeyson!’
Just then he noticed me for the first time.I shook my head at him,to show that I had not wanted the soldiers to find him.He stared at me,but I did not know if he understood or not.
The prisoners were taken to the riverside, where a boat was waiting to take them on to the prison-ship.Just as he was about to leave,my convict said,‘Officer, after my escape,I stole some food, from the blacksmith's house.Bread, cheese, brandy and a meat pie.I'm sorry I ate your pie, blacksmith.’
‘I'm glad you did,’replied Joe kindly.‘ We don't know why you're a convict, but we wouldn't want you to die of hunger.’
The man rubbed his eyes with the back of his dirty hand.We watched the small boat carry him out to the middle of the river, where the great black prison-ship stood high out of the water, held by its rusty chains. He disappeared into the ship, and I thought that was the last I had seen of him.

Ah q is a person abandoned by that era. He has nothing but to live by working. Although he can really do it, the heavy oppression and exploitation of the society make him always in life crisis and be bullied. He used spiritual victory method to comfort me, deceive himself and others, muddle along and live a life. When he was beaten by others, he comforted himself and said, it was the son who beat Laozi. His spiritual victory method can be said to be absolutely. Although we are far away from Ah Qs era, his spiritual victory method still seems to be feasible.

Good Spirit Makes You Brave --After reading ?A New Year's surprise?
A New Year’s surprise by John Milne is a wonderful story. It tells us how a girl called Kaya could defeat a robber who had a gun in his hand. And she is only 17 years old! Kaya used her courage and wisdom to beat the robbers. Finally she became a superstar because of her excellent deed. After reading this book, I thought about my life. Sometimes I was brave but sometimes I was a coward. People always have their own weak side. Some people often show how brave they are and how strong they are, but when a disaster comes, they always run away quickly and scream more loudly than any other people. So, we should try our best and show our bravey when something or somebody is in danger.
Something happens out of the blue and you don't have much time to think about it, so remember: whatever anything happens, don't evade it, but treat it as a challenge. Someday you will find you can solve the problem and you are the winner! Good spirit makes you be brave, if you really want to learn how to be a brave man or woman, you must have a good spirit, and you must try to face anything and to do everything with your courage and wisdom.
Well, life is always full of frustrations, but you must know how to solve your problems, and you must be brave. But what can make you be brave? Only good spirit!

The story is that Dorothy, a girl from Kansas, USA, was swept to a place called mengqijin by a tornado. The northern witch instructed her to go to jadeite city to find the magician of Oz to help her go home. On the way, I met the scarecrow who needed a good head, the iron man who needed a heart and the little lion who needed courage. They go together for their own ideals and aspirations. The journey was not smooth, but the difficulties did not defeat them... Instead, they were brought together to tide over the difficulties. At last, after all their hardships, Dorothy finally returned home safely.
Compared with their fearlessness and courage to move forward, they are far behind. Once, my mother reported hard pen calligraphy class to me. At the beginning, I was full of enthusiasm and hard work, but after a few days of persistence, I found it very boring to learn hard pen calligraphy. So I started a small job in class and didn't finish the homework assigned by my teacher when I came home. I felt very ashamed to think of it.
