The protagonist of "The Old Man and the Sea" is a courageous old man. He is full of self-confidence. In the case of no fish caught for more than eighty days, he insisted on going out to sea, and finally caught a big fish, but the fish was dragged. I moved the boat and sailed away. The old man did not panic. In the absence of water and food, he did not give up, relying on a little water and a little fish caught to save energy. Finally, the fish showed its weakness-the fish caught it. But fish blood attracted sharks.

The old man struggled to catch the shark in order to protect the fish. In the end the fish was still eaten, but the old man was praised. I think the old mans will, patience and courage all come from his self-confidence. He believes in his abilities. Otherwise, he would have given up this big fish long ago, and would not let us see such a courageous old man who is not afraid of danger and pursues dreams. Seeing him as an old man who has so much confidence in himself and so courageous, I cant help but think that I always encountered difficulties like backing down. remember once. When I was taking a Chinese class, I really wanted to answer the teachers questions. In order to not stutter, I simply wrote the answer in the book and watched the students answering actively.

I also wanted to give it a try. But he raised his hand a little. I suddenly thought, "Will I answer wrong?" I hesitated and thought for a long time without raising this heavy hand until the end of get out of class. Now, when I finish reading the article "The Old Man and the Sea", I suddenly enlighten you! The old man was full of confidence without catching fish for more than 80 days. He believed that he would be able to cope with the big fish; he was also able to deal with many sharks calmly! How can I not believe in myself and have no courage? Moreover, I did not experience much failure! So now I plan to be brave, not timid! After reading "The Old Man and the Sea", I summed up a avenue: as long as my condition is not bad, I must be confident in myself. Confidence is power! As long as you are confident to be yourself, then you are successful because you have overcome inferiority. Dont forget, the protagonist is just an old man. Everyone said that when people are old, they are inconvenient and feel close to death. But the protagonist refused to accept the defeat, did he catch the big fish? Although the big fish was eaten up by the shark, he was recognized by everyone! He has a confident, immature heart, he succeeded! I am grateful for the feeling and enlightenment brought to me by this book.

On summer vacation of this year, I studied in novel " old man and sea " of Hemingway , famous writer of U.S.A. ,. I admire the old fisherman#39;s will in the novel very much, he lets me understand that a person must have unremitting spirit, could succeed . What the novel is described is an old fisherman almost the sixty years old, when go to sea and fish alone once, have angled to a big fish, but can not draw. After tough fisherman and fish have socialized for a few days, just find this is a big Malin#39;s fish which exceeds several times of one#39;s own fishing boat, though know perfectly well that it is very difficult to win , does not give up yet. Because big Malin fish fishlike smell of wound attract odd herds of shark vie for the food again later, but the old man is still unwilling to give up like this, stress the tight encirclement finally , take the large fish back to fishing port , let other fishmen admire it endlessly. The old fisherman thinks that as I read ": It is really too close from here to coast, perhaps there are bigger fish in the farther place " When, admire very much because this old fisherman in the persons, because play not for some fishing he already at this moment I, but he is not satisfied with the existing state of affairs , but advance towards greater goal. Seeing us again, meet some little difficulties at ordinary times , all of us complain bitterly. We are the future of the motherland, should be as ambitious as this old man, go to pursue well , greater goal. Read as me " big Malin fish is it enclose light fishing boat move about , is it get mast to twine cable fast to begin, old man right hand hold steel fork high , jump out in a flash , affording to try one#39;s best above water in it, a sound of wail has finished the life of the loud fish, it floats on the surface of water silently "When, the I one heart is too fall like pieces of stone not big. I admire that kind of fearing of the old man at all , unremitting spirit very much, though know rival#39;s strength is very strong , but he has not shrunk back at all , meets the difficulty. Just because there is this kind of spirit, the old fisherman has obtained the victory of the trial of strength of this life and death. We should study the old fisherman#39;s spirit too in life, do the thing and is not afraid of the difficulty , could achieve success . Read big blood offensive smell of fish smell one shark , fall over each other to visit to vie for the food, left hand of old man pull a muscle just, he can only use right hand, can weapon attacked to used for defend oneself with stick , mouth of swordfish that catch everything, and has driven away this herd of shark finally. But big meat of fish take into big half already, but old man criticize one#39;s own left hand " when the work this when have a rest " humorously also, I am subdued by old man#39;s optimistic spirit too. In life, some losses are unavoidable, we should treat the optimistic attitude , can#39;t worry about petty gain or loss . Finally, the novel sees with a teenager that old fisherman has 18 feet of big long Malin#39;s fish totally in the tolerance , the ones that have described this fish are enormous again, prove that old fisherman#39;s difficulty overcome is big, than ordinary. Old fisherman#39;s spirit that makes great efforts to struggle fearless of danger and difficulty that the novel has been extolled, we should be like him too, can#39; t be satisfied with the current situation , should be positive upwards, it should be unremitting to do anything, it must not give up halfway to meeting difficulty should meet the difficulty. Only in this way, we could obtain greater success and victory .

The Old Man And The Sea This is a great book mind you How I gave opinions to that is the spirits of Santiago greatly affected me But the author Earnest Hemingway said if his writing is really good then the characters can also be many other things Santiago is a common fisherman and he hadn't had a fish for 84 days And this time when he left he fished a big salmon by himself He fought the fish for 3 days and nights and finally he kills it He called it his 'brother' But he then had to fight the sharks and finally he gone home with a fish spine and some fish bones I could find his great spirits of never giving up Particularly if he just loose the grip of the fishing poleand let the fish go he wouldn't have any trouble but he can stay to the end Something I regret to tell you is that I didn't read this book very carefully so I intend to tell you I want to read this book again and tell you what I've gained through the secondtime reading

the Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingways most enduring works and may very well become one of the true classics of this generation. It played a GREat part in his winning the Pulizer Prize in 1953 and the 1954 Novel Prize for Literature and confirmed his power and presence in the literary world.Hemingway is also one of my favorite writers.Besides The Old Man And the Sea, I have read some of his other works, such as The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms and The Snow of Kilimanijaro. But The Old Man and the Sea is the one that left the deepest impression on me.

I first read this book when I was in my fifteens. And now I remember it just as well as if I had read it yesterday.Pride and Prejudice is a chefdoeuvre.

My first impression of this story was from screen.

Its long long ago, maybe before I can read english books.I dont remember which movie edition I had seen. But I was impressed by the music, the scenery and the costume.I was very favor of a section of music in its balls. Its pretty brisk, liked a wonderful song of a bird.Regarding to the characters, I liked Elizabeth, the heroine, though I didnt think shes beautiful. But shes smart. However, I didnt pay much attention to the plot.I thought its so long that it made me impatient and bored.By now, I havent read the whole story in English or its Chinese version, either.I owe it to my prejudice.

In fact, I didnt understand the story at that time.I didnt know why it called Pride and Prejudice.Of course someone was pride, but I didnt find where s the prejudice.I thought its normal, the way people treated each other in that.I considered prejudice would be very disgusting. But to the movie everthing was OK in my minds, except its length. Now, I think I have understood more about it.Im a prejudiced person so I cant find wheres wrong.I merely like to do the things I like.Everytime I meet somebody or something,my thinking about he or it all depends on my foregone experience and my mood of the time.

Why didn't Hemingway make the old man finally victory? This is the old man and the sea "want to reveal of philosophy. Undeniable, as long as it is they will have defects. When a person admitted the defects and tried to overcome it, this is the most important thing. Because a person's value is embodied in the process, even if nothing to harvest, it is victory. The book The Old Man and the Sea mainly tells that the old fisherman Santiago did not catch fish at sea for 84 consecutive days.

At first, a boy named Manolin went to sea with him, but after 40 days, he did not catch any fish, so his parents arranged him to go to another boat, because they thought that the child would not have good luck with the old man. On the 85th day, the old man rowed far away early in the morning, and unexpectedly caught a marlin bigger than the boat. The old man walked around with the fish for two days and finally caught it.

However, the injured fish left a trail on the sea, which attracted numerous sharks. The old man struggled with the sharks, but when he returned to the harbor, the marlin only had a huge skeleton, and the old man fell down on the land exhausted. The boy came to see the old man, who thought Santiago had not been defeated. That afternoon, Santiago fell asleep in the hut. In his dream, he saw a lion.

This story makes me understand that when encountering difficulties and setbacks, we should be strong and unyielding and forge ahead bravely. Although the old man failed, he kept his dignity and courage.

The old man and the sea creates a classic image of a tough man. An old fisherman named Santiago of Cuba went fishing alone and caught a huge Marlin after 84 days of nothing. This is a big fish two feet longer than his boat that the old man has never seen or heard of. The fish was strong and strong. He dragged the boat and drifted for two days and nights. In these two days and nights, the old man experienced a difficult test that he had never experienced before, and finally stabbed the big fish to death and tied it to the bow. However, at this time, he met a shark. The old man fought with the shark to the death. As a result, the marlin was eaten up by the shark. The old man finally dragged home with only a bare fish skeleton.

When I read about the fierce struggle between the old fisherman and sharks, I was really worried about him, but he always maintained an optimistic spirit to face some great difficulties. Seeing here, I couldn't help thinking of myself. Whenever I encounter some difficulties, I always feel very unhappy, feel very upset and want to escape from reality. Look at Grandpa fisherman again. No matter what difficulties he encounters, he doesn't shrink back, but faces them bravely!

Life should also be like this. Don't be greedy and afraid of death. Have confidence in yourself. Even if we encounter many difficulties, we should never let it down. We should bravely eliminate it.

We are the future of our motherland. We should be as ambitious as Grandpa fisherman and pursue better and bigger goals. I believe that with my efforts, I will become as brave and brave as Grandpa fisherman. Life is an endless pursuit. Its road is long, difficult and full of ups and downs, but as long as he bravely and tenaciously meets the challenge with a confident heart, he will always be a real winner!

I will remember that a man is not born to be defeated. You can destroy him as much as you can, but you can't defeat him.

When I was a middle school student, Ive finished this book in Chinese. But when I read it in English,I really gain something new both in the way of expression and the spirit it shows to us.May be different ages to read the same book we will learn different things from it.At least, for my part, that is true. Firstly,I would like to review some information about this book.Such as the background, major characters and the topic of it. The Old Man and the Sea is a story by Ernest Hemingway, written in Cuba in 1951 and published in 1952. It was the last major work of fiction to be produced by Hemingway and published in his lifetime. One of his most famous works, it centers upon Santiago, an aging Cuban fisherman who struggles with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. The Old Man and the Sea served to reinvigorate Hemingways literary reputation and prompted a reexamination of his entire body of work. The novella was initially received with much popularity; it restored many readers confidence in Hemingways capability as an author. Its publisher, Scribners, on an early dust jacket, called the novella a "new classic," and many critics favorably compared it with such works as William Faulkners "The Bear" and Herman Melvilles Moby-Dick. This book gives me a deep impression especially the description about the mans braveness and persistence. In this book, in order to suggest the profundity of the old mans sacrifice and the glory that derives from it, Hemingway purposefully likens Santiago to Christ, who, according to Christian theology, gave his life for the greater glory of humankind. Crucifixion imagery is the most noticeable way in which Hemingway creates the symbolic parallel between Santiago and Christ. When Santiagos palms are first cut by his fishing line, the reader cannot help but think of Christ suffering his stigmata. Later, when the sharks arrive, Hemingway portrays the old man as a crucified martyr, saying that he makes a noise similar to that of a man having nails driven through his hands. Furthermore, the image of the old man struggling up the hill with his mast across his shoulders recalls Christs march toward Calvary. Even the position in which Santiago collapses on his bedface down with his arms out straight and the palms of his hands upbrings to mind the image of Christ suffering on the cross. Hemingway employs these images in the final pages of the novella in order to link Santiago to Christ, who exemplified transcendence by turning loss into gain, defeat into triumph, and even death into renewed life. The major characters in this book are also vivid and lively. Santiago?,the old man of the novellas title, Santiago is a Cuban fisherman who has had an extended run of bad luck. Despite his expertise, he has been unable to catch a fish for eighty-four days. He is humble, yet exhibits a justified pride in his abilities. His knowledge of the sea and its creatures, and of his craft, is unparalleled and helps him preserve a sense of hope regardless of circumstance. The marlin?,Santiago hooks the marlin, which we learn at the end of the novella measures eighteen feet, on the first afternoon of his fishing expedition. Manolin?,a boy presumably in his adolescence, Manolin is Santiagos apprentice and devoted attendant. The old man first took him out on a boat when he was merely five years old. Due to Santiagos recent bad luck, Manolins parents have forced the boy to go out on a different fishing boat. Manolin, however, still cares deeply for the old man, to whom he continues to look as a mentor. Joe DiMaggio, although DiMaggio never appears in the novel, he plays a significant role nonetheless. Santiago worships him as a model of strength and commitment, and his thoughts turn toward DiMaggio whenever he needs to reassure himself of his own strength. Perico ?,Perico, the reader assumes, owns the bodega in Santiagos village. He never appears in the novel, but he serves an important role in the fishermans life by providing him with newspapers that report the baseball scores. This act establishes him as a kind man who helps the aging Santiago. Martin, like Perico, Martin, a caf owner in Santiagos village, does not appear in the story. The reader learns of him through Manolin, who often goes to Martin for Santiagos supper. As the old man says, Martin is a man of frequent kindness who deserves to be repaid. From the very first paragraph, Santiago is characterized as someone struggling against defeat. He has gone eighty-four days without catching a fishhe will soon pass his own record of eighty-seven days. Almost as a reminder of Santiagos struggle, the sail of his skiff resembles the flag of permanent defeat. But the old man refuses defeat at every turn: he resolves to sail out beyond the other fishermen to where the biggest fish promise to be. He lands the marlin, tying his record of eighty-seven days after a brutal three-day fight, and he continues to ward off sharks from stealing his prey, even though he knows the battle is useless. Because Santiago is pitted against the creatures of the sea, some readers choose to view the tale as a chronicle of mans battle against the natural world, but the novella is, more accurately, the story of mans place within nature. Both Santiago and the marlin display qualities of pride, honor, and bravery, and both are subject to the same eternal law: they must kill or be killed. As Santiago reflects when he watches the weary warbler fly toward shore, where it will inevitably meet the hawk, the world is filled with predators, and no living thing can escape the inevitable struggle that will lead to its death. Santiago lives according to his own observation: man is not made for defeat. a man can be destroyed but not defeated. In Hemingways portrait of the world, death is inevitable, but the best menand animalswill nonetheless refuse to give in to its power. Accordingly, man and fish will struggle to the death, just as hungry sharks will lay waste to an old mans trophy catch.

The novel suggests that it is possible to transcend this natural law. In fact, the very inevitability of destruction creates the terms that allow a worthy man or beast to transcend it. It is precisely through the effort to battle the inevitable that a man can prove himself. Indeed, a man can prove this determination over and over through the worthiness of the opponents he chooses to face. Santiago finds the marlin worthy of a fight, just as he once found the great negro of Cienfuegos worthy. HSantiago, though destroyed at the end of the novella, is never defeated. Instead, he emerges as a hero. Santiagos struggle does not enable him to change mans place in the world. Rather, it enables him to meet his most dignified destiny. While it is certainly true that Santiagos eighty-four-day run of bad luck is an affront to his pride as a masterful fisherman, and that his attempt to bear out his skills by sailing far into the gulf waters leads to disaster, Hemingway does not condemn his protagonist for being full of pride. On the contrary, Santiago stands as proof that pride motivates men to greatness. Because the old man acknowledges that he killed the mighty marlin largely out of pride, and because his capture of the marlin leads in turn to his heroic transcendence of defeat, pride becomes the source of Santiagos greatest strength. Without a ferocious sense of pride, that battle would never have been fought, or more likely, it would have been abandoned before the end. Santiagos pride also motivates his desire to transcend the destructive forces of nature. Throughout the novel, no matter how baleful his circumstances become, the old man exhibits an unflagging determination to catch the marlin and bring it to shore. When the first shark arrives, Santiagos resolve is mentioned twice in the space of just a few paragraphs. Even if the old man had returned with the marlin intact, his moment of glory, like the marlins meat, would have been short-lived. The glory and honor Santiago accrues comes not from his battle itself but from his pride and determination to fight. Santiago dreams his pleasant dream of the lions at play on the beaches of Africa three times. The first time is the night before he departs on his three-day fishing expedition, the second occurs when he sleeps on the boat for a few hours in the middle of his struggle with the marlin, and the third takes place at the very end of the book. In fact, the sober promise of the triumph and regeneration with which the novella closes is supported by the final image of the lions. Because Santiago associates the lions with his youth, the dream suggests the circular nature of life. Additionally, because Santiago imagines the lions, fierce predators, playing, his dream suggests a harmony between the opposing forceslife and death, love and hate, destruction and regenerationof nature. This book gives me courage of conquering all kinds of difficulties .And I have the belief that the most beautiful thing is the process that we make our best to achieve our dream, and never say give up .

I read a famous American writer Ernest Hemingways novel "The Old Man and the Sea ",admire the will of the old fisherman in the novel,he has taught me a person must have the perseverance to be successful.

The novel depicts a nearly sixty years old fisherman caught a big fish in a single sea fishing, but could not pull old fisherman deal with the fish after a few days, only to find this is one more than the big marlin fishing boat several times, knowing that it is difficult to win,but still not give r,because of the big marlin wound fish smell attracted a group of shark snatch, but old people are still reluctant to give up,and ultimately to Win,the big fish back to the fishing port, the other fisherman marveled.

We should learn the old mans perseverance e are lots of difficulties on the road to success,we must have the perseverance to fight with we do our best all the time,we can touch the achievement which we want.

In the past a few days, we learned something about a novel called the old man and the sea, after learning it, I have some thoughts about it.

The story introduced an old experienced fisherman to us. His name is Santiago. He has not caught any fish for 84 days, so the 85th day, he went to the deep sea, trying to get some fish. It was a hard time when Santiago floated on the sea for almost 3 days in order to catch a big fish called marlin. Finally, he made it. But unfortunately, the smell of blood attracted a lot of sharks. At last, all his effort to drive away the sharks was in vain. His marlin was eaten up, and he still got nothing.

Although the consequence was not so good, I still believe that Santiago is a real hero. A hero, not means that he is never afraid of anything, but means that he is really afraid, but he never gives up. This is hero. In addition, his words in this story also impressed me a lot. He sai

d,man is not made for defeat, a man can be destroyed, but not defeatded. Perhaps we wish that everything can go well in our daily lives, but as we know, it is only a wish.
