A friend of mine named Paul received an automobile from his brother as a Christmas present. On Christmas Eve when Paul came out of his office, a street urchin was walking around the shiny new car, admiring it.
"Is this your car, Mister?" he said.
Paul nodded. "My brother gave it to me for Christmas." The boy was astounded. "You mean your brother gave it to you and it didn’t cost you nothing? Boy, I wish . . ." He hesitated.
Of course Paul knew what he was going to wish for. He was going to wish he had a brother like that. But what the lad said jarred Paul all the way down to his heels.
"I wish," the boy went on, "That I could be a brother like that."
Paul looked at the boy in astonishment, then impulsively he added, "Would you like to take a ride in my car?"
"Oh yes, Id love that."
After a short ride, the boy turned with his eyes aglow, said, "Mister, would you mind driving in front of my house?"
Paul smiled a little. He thought he knew what the lad wanted. He wanted to show his neighbors that he could ride home in a big automobile. But Paul was wrong again. "Will you stop where those two steps are?" the boy asked.
He ran up the steps. Then in a little while Paul heard him coming back, but he was not coming fast. He was carrying his little crippled brother. He sat him down on the bottom step, then sort of squeezed up against him and pointed to the car.
"There she is, Buddy, just like I told you upstairs. His brother gave it to him for Christmas and it didn’t cost him a cent. And some day Im gonna give you one just like it . . . then you can see for yourself all the pretty things in the Christmas windows that Ive been trying to tell you about." Paul got out and lifted the lad to the front seat of his car. The shining-eyed older brother climbed in beside him and the three of them began a memorable holiday ride. That Christmas Eve, Paul learned

想學(xué)好英語，首先要培養(yǎng)對英語的興趣�！芭d趣是最好的老師”,興趣是學(xué)習英語的巨大動力，有了興趣，學(xué)習就會事半功倍。而興趣不是與生俱來的，需要培養(yǎng)。有的同學(xué)說：“我一看到英語就頭疼，怎么能培養(yǎng)對英語的興趣呢？”還有的同學(xué)說：“英語單詞我今天記了明天忘，我太笨了，唉，我算沒治了。”這都是缺乏信心的表現(xiàn)。初學(xué)英語時，沒有掌握正確的學(xué)習方法，沒有樹立必勝的信心，缺乏了克服困難的`勇氣，稍遇失敗，就會向困難低頭，學(xué)習積極性也逐漸降低，自然也就不會取得好成績。但是，只要在老師的幫助下，認識到學(xué)英語的必要性，用正確的態(tài)度對待英語學(xué)習，用科學(xué)的方法指導(dǎo)學(xué)習，時間長了，懂得多了，就有了興趣，學(xué)習起來就有了動力和欲望。
其次練好基本功是學(xué)好英語的必要條件，沒有扎實的英語基礎(chǔ)，就談不上繼續(xù)學(xué)習，更談不上有所成就。要想基本功扎實，必須全神貫注地認真聽講，上好每一節(jié)課，提高課堂效率。因此我們應(yīng)該做到以下“五到”：
一、“心到”。在課堂上應(yīng)聚精會神，一刻也不能懈怠，大腦要始終處于積極狀態(tài)，思維要活躍、思路要開闊，心隨老師走，聽懂每一句話，抓住每一個環(huán)節(jié)，理解每一個知識點，多聯(lián)想、多思考，做到心領(lǐng)神會。
二、“手到”。學(xué)英語，一定要做課堂筆記。因為人的記憶力是有限的，人不可能都過目不忘，記憶本身就是不斷與遺忘作斗爭的過程。常言說，“好記憶不如爛筆頭”。老師講的知識可能在課堂上記住了，可是過了一段時間，就會忘記，所以，做好筆記很有必要。英語知識也是一點點積累起來的，學(xué)到的每一個單詞、詞組以及句型結(jié)構(gòu)，都記在筆記本上，甚至是書空白處或字里行間，這對以后的復(fù)習鞏固都是非常方便的。
三、“耳到”。在課堂上，認真聽講是十分必要的，不但要專心聽老師對知識的講解，而且要認真聽老師說英語的語音、語調(diào)、重音、連讀、失去爆破、斷句等發(fā)音要領(lǐng)，以便培養(yǎng)自己純正地道的英語口語。聽見聽懂老師傳授的每一個知識點，在頭腦里形成反饋以幫助記憶；理解領(lǐng)會老師提出的問題，以便迅速作答，對比同學(xué)對問題的回答，以加深對問題的理解而取別人之長補自己之短。
四、“眼到”。在認真聽講的同時，還要雙眼緊隨老師觀察老師的動作、口形、表情、板書、繪圖、教具展示等。大腦里形成的視覺信息和聽覺信息相結(jié)合，印象就會更加深刻。
五、“口到”。學(xué)習語言，不張嘴不動口是學(xué)不好的，同學(xué)們最大的毛病是讀書不出聲，害羞不敢張嘴。尤其是早讀課，同學(xué)們只是用眼看或默讀，這樣就只有視覺信息，而沒有聽覺信息在大腦里的反饋，當然記憶也不會太深刻，口部肌肉也得不到鍛煉，也就很難練就一口純正的英語。所以，要充分利用早晨頭腦清醒的時間，大聲朗讀；課堂上要勇躍回答老師提問、積極參與同學(xué)間討論和辯論，課下對不清楚的問題及時提出并解決。對學(xué)過的課文要多讀、勤讀，可以跟錄音機讀，竭力模仿其語音語調(diào)以糾正發(fā)音，要讀得抑揚頓挫朗朗上口，對話短文要背得滾爪爛熟。利用一切可能的機會，練習英語口語。

Once in a while,i'd think back on the things of past one year.Lucky and excited,i was admitted into this school which is the best high school in our city.I thought it could give me great stimulation to achieve the dream in my heart.However,when i was on the point of facing difficulties,i seemed so weak on the way to success.I gradully lost interest in studying.The stimulation had gotten out of my system and wasn't in control of my mental.I began being absent-minded in most of classes.Playing cellphone became my foolish fault.Finally i delayed my studies.How could i account for my low scores?The answer might be:I was wrong all the way.
But now it's a new start for me.I've made up my mind to be on the right way.I must attach study to me and my future.In a way,i want to apologize to many people who think highly of me for my fault.From now on,i'll never hesitate to strive for my future,although many things may add to my laziness.

As we know, nearly 75% of the Earth surface is covered with water, But about 97% of this huge amount is sea water or salt water. Man can only drink and use the rest 3%, but most of it has been polluted.
There are more than 400 cities poor with water in China. Millions of people don’t have enough water for drinking, many of them die because of lack of water . There are many big factories in China. They put the dirty and poisonous water in the river, such as the Yellow River, the Chang Jiang River, the Yangtze River and so on. It pollutes the river and makes people have many strange diseases. Many people don’t know how important the water is. They often think: I pay for the water I used, it’s none of others business. How foolish and how selfish the thought is. They don’t turn off the tap when they finish washing their hands in the public toilet because the water is free-paying. Most of the students in the university use big basins of water to wash fruits . Because they have paid a lot for the room fee. Some of the middle school students use the water for drinking to play jokes on others just for fun. But who has thought about our life in the future? Who has thought about the people without water? Who has thought about the future of the world?
Why don’t people know how to save it until we have lost it? Why don’t people know how important the water is until the last drop of water becomes our tears? Let’s save the water, for you, for me , for the future.
Reuse the water which you wash the fruits to clean the toilets. Reuse the water which you wash your face to clean the floor and furniture. Reuse the water which you wash the rice to water the flowers. I think it’s the good way to save water. It not only saves water but also saves money.
The water is just like our blood. To save water is to save our lives. Let’s keep every drop of water, for the people who don’t have enough water for drinking, for ourselves, for our children and children’s children。
