美國(guó)英語(yǔ)作文 篇3
The United States of America, also known as the United States, the U.S., the U.S.A., and America, is a country in North America that shares land borders with Canada and Mexico, and a sea border with Russia. Extending from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, the United States is a federal republic, with its capital in Washington, D.C.
The present-day continental United States has been inhabited for at least 15,000 years by indigenous tribes.[1] After European exploration and settlement in the 16th century, the English established their own colonies—and gained control of others that had been begun by other European nations—in the eastern portion of the continent in the 17th and early 18th centuries. On 4 July 1776, at war with Britain over fair governance, thirteen of these colonies declared their independence. In 1783, the war ended in British acceptance of the new nation. Since then, the country has more than quadrupled in size: it now consists of 50 states and one federal district; it also has numerous overseas territories.
At over 3.7 million square miles (over 9.5 million km2), the U.S. is the third or fourth largest country by total area, depending on whether the disputed areas of China are included. It is the world's third most populous nation, with nearly 300 million people.
The United States has maintained a liberal democratic political system since it adopted its Articles of Confederation on 1 March 1781 and the Constitution, the Articles' replacement, on 17 September 1787. American military, economic, cultural, and political influence increased throughout the 20th century; with the collapse of the Soviet Union at the end of the Cold War, the nation emerged as the world's sole remaining superpower.[2] Today, it plays a major role in world affairs.
The earliest known use of the name America is from 1507, when a globe and a large map created by the German cartographer Martin Waldseemüller in Saint-Die-des-Vosges described the combined continents of North and South America. Although the origin of the name is uncertain[3], the most widely held belief is that expressed in an accompanying book, Cosmographiae Introductio, which explains it as a feminized version of the Latin name of Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci (Americus Vespucius); in Latin, the other continents' names were all feminine. Vespucci theorized, correctly, that Christopher Columbus, on reaching islands in the Caribbean Sea in 1492, had come not to India but to a "New World".
The Americas were also known as Columbia, after Columbus, prompting the name District of Columbia for the land set aside as the U.S. capital. Columbia remained a popular name for the United States until the early 20th century, when it fell into relative disuse; but it is still used poetically and appears in various names and titles. A female personification of the country is also called Columbia; she is similar to Britannia.[4][5][6][7] Columbus Day, a holiday in the U.S. and other countries in the Americas commemorating Columbus' October 1492 landing.
The term "united States of America" was first used officially in the Declaration of Independence, adopted on 4 July 1776. On 15 November 1777, the Second Continental Congreadopted the Articles of Confederation, the first of which stated "The Stile of this Confederacy shall be 'The United States of America.'"
The adjectival and demonymic forms for the United States are American, a point of controversy among some.
美國(guó)英語(yǔ)作文 篇4
Early this morning, we took a flight to San Francisco. One of the things that impressed me most was the visit to the Intel museum.
Had no sooner arrived at the museum of strong science and breathed, threshold before those incredible illusion, now all become a reality in my eyes, most especially, I saw "anatomy" internal computer, reminds people of multifarious, the winding river maze.
The computer that we normally see is always so convenient, which brings people many benefits, but who thought how complicated it is inside? Today I finally saw the hard-won computer. The main thing in the computer is the chip, which looks like a labyrinth with no end. It's hard to make a chip.
First, cut the chip plate at the bottom of the well, but at the bottom of the plate, but have to hard gold wire to build by laying bricks or stones becomes, in the process of making chips, making people have to keep the body clean, because in the process of production, the chip can not be stained with a trace of dust inside. Otherwise, the previous efforts can be abandoned! The whole process must be careful, and every part needs to be carefully selected and meticulous. It is conceivable that a computer is made up of many "meticulous".
It's hard to make a computer, but the world's elite have honed it in this difficult situation. As long as you work hard, you can create your own life and the world. Today I am proud of mankind, tomorrow man is proud of me.

American travel composition English 4
We arrived in New York on a scorching afternoon. Fresh out of the airport, I felt a hot air coming, and we took off our coats and let sweat and freedom flow...
An hour later, we arrived at the hotel, lowered the luggage, and went to sleep.
As soon as I got to sleep, my parents called me up and got into the car and headed for the port. We went to the statue of liberty, about half an hour's boat, and heard someone Shouting excitedly: "see! I see it!" A solemn statue stood on a small island by the sea. The name of the island is liberty island.
The statue of liberty, which is about 93 meters high, has a statue of liberty in its head and a free torch about ten meters high. It was a gift from France to the United States for the centenary. It symbolizes the freedom of the American people. Her eyes looked straight ahead, solemn and kind.
The next day, we got up early and drove our rental car to the Wall Street copper bull. When I got to the copper cow, I waited and waited, so it was not easy for me to have time. I rushed in, and dad took the camera and snapped a lot of photos. After watching the Wall Street bull, we went straight to Wall Street. I look forward to going to Wall Street, because my dream is to be the richest person in the world. On the way to Wall Street, my heart would jump out excitedly, my father pretended to shake his head, and then said sadly, "it's very kind of money worship!"
Wall Street is a street with some very old buildings. Go straight and you'll see a stock exchange. It had an American flag on it. It was beautiful.
Back at the hotel, we brushed our teeth and climbed into bed, and we fell asleep. My mother called me up in the morning and went to the metropolitan museum without a good brush.
The metropolitan museum doesn't seem like a building. It's like a sculptor. The carved objects are magnified. The first floor is the Egyptian pavilion, where many of the stones are kept well, and some are covered with earth, which is thought to have been dug out. It's not easy to see the Egyptian pavilion. We can't wait to get up to the second floor. Do you know why? Because it's a Chinese pavilion! On the last step, we are too tired to asthma hush, I turned around, we will shine at the moment immediately strength increase ran past, that is a plate, embroidered full of beautiful decorative pattern, look closely, is a dragon and a phoenix coiled on a plate. Everyone stared at it, looking forward, looking down. After about an hour, we finished the Chinese pavilion, not without admiration. Among them, one of my favorite items is a piece of square, carved with a giant Buddha inside and outside are all small Buddha, surprised to see that item, thought, thought how good his own age, ancient also as good as yourself!
The time passed quickly, and suddenly it was dark, and everyone was reluctant to leave the met. It seemed like a long time ago, I woke up, looked at my watch, did not know, a look of surprise! It's nine o 'clock! I quickly woke my father and mother, and my father and mother laughed and told me, "we can get up late today, so don't worry." After half an hour, everyone had a leisurely breakfast and embarked on a trip to Boston.
