There is no doubt that some people are selfish and greedy. For example, some
merchants sell their fake commodities at the market place for more profit. They are rich and want to be richer. There are also government officials who sell people's trust. Senior officials who take bribes by selling the power in their hands are not a few. Those people believe in the precept "Everyone for himself and the devil take the hind most."
However, the majority of people are neither selfish nor greedy. They contribute much and ask for little. Countless examples can be found around us, the PLA soldiers who sacrificed themselves for saving people's lives in fighting the disastrous floods and the warriors in white who risked their lives to save SARS victims being two of the most typical contrast to the selfish and corrupt official they are heroes, who set up glorious images for us.
The idea that nowadays people are selfish and greedy is probably attributed to the influence of the mass media which tend to over exaggerate the negative aspects of life. Many newspapers, particularly many local evening papers, and TV films play up nastiness by reporting and showing too much about violence and sex. A lot of books, too, portray selfishness and greed to seek sensational effect and economic profit. I wonder whether they are selfish and greedy, too?
Hi, Jim, there is an interesting picture conveying a message vividly that a difference between reality and dream may as well be recognized in our life。 Evidently, realizing this difference and trying to shorten this gap is the key to achieving our accomplishment, otherwise nothing will be gotten in the end。
In our daily life, some people are aware of their ability, making great efforts to improve themselves, while others ignore the disparity between their earnest wish and poorest actuality, doing nothing but complaining。 Conceivably, the confused man in the picture is exactly the latter one。 In this picture, a man is fishing on a big stone, waiting and waiting。 However, the small fish he has caught is totally different from the big one he is longing for。 Now, there are two options in front of him: face the reality and keep trying till get the dreamy fish, or drop his fishing rod and feel desperate。 Apparently, he chooses the second one。 Such a situation seems fairly common in our society。 We are faced with this kind of intriguing question all the time, and every choice we make has great influence on our way to success。 Making an accurate estimate of our realities and dreams, then sparing no efforts to approach the tip is the only option for us to make, provided that we are in great want of achieving our goals。
Based on the above statement, a conclusion will be arrived at that learning to accept the reality and adopting a positive attitude towards the dream is what we are supposed to do, when confronting our less—satisfying situation。
I had many difficulties when I started to learn English. Since I come from Chaoshan District, I could not tell / r / from / l /. Because they sound exactly the same in my dialect, I had great difficulty in telling “right” from “l(fā)ight”. My poor memory was another challenge for me when I decided to enlarge my vocabulary. I could only remember the English words for a while.
In order to tell the slight difference between / r / and / l /, I forced myself to practice a lot every day. Whenever I started to speak English, I reminded myself of the difference between “right” and “l(fā)ight” as well as “read” and “l(fā)ead”. At first I felt it rather unnatural, but soon I got used to speaking in this way. As for my poor memory, I gave up mechanical memorization and tried many other ways. Finally I found a most efficient way for me: memorizing English words by their syllables and pronunciation.
This is how I succeeded in overcoming the difficulties in learning English and now I have a stronger belief in the proverb that where there is a will, there is a way.
Knowingwhat an employer is looking for in a potential employee can help us to preparefor an interview. An interviewer may have such questions in his mind: Whatspecific skills am I looking for in the people who apply for a job? And how doI identify these skills?
First, most important for him in the way of skills is the ability to communicate ---can people speak clearly? Can they express the kind of person they believethemselves to be? In what kind of situation do they perform well? What aretheir strengths and weaknesses? So what he’s looking for is an ability toverbalize an idea in clear, simple, understandable language.
Second,he is looking for creativity. He will ask some “odd” questions. How do they respond in these tough situations --- canthey be creative with their answers? This is very important when they are outin business situations with customers. They will have to respond to very suddenchanges and problem-solving situation that they are not familiar with, and theinterviewer wants to know if they can handle them.
Third, what he looks for the most are personal qualities --- assertiveness, drive, ambition and a competitive instinct. They should be high achievers and want towork hard. How they present their experiences?Forexample, an assertive person will say, “I can do these things” and “I decidedin this course of action,” whereas a more passive person might say, “These arethe experiences I have had.” All of these things describe the person in someway.
i heard that in ancient greece there lived a people called spartus. the spartus were famous for their bravery and simple life. as they lived in laconia, they were also called lacons. the lacons had a lot of strange rules. one of them was that they should speak briefly and never use more words than needed.
this story made me think of a junior middle school classmate of mine. once he told me that their leagus secretary often put them to the trouble of long meetings,at which she would made long, long speeches, all empty words. everybody suffered. such meetings achieve little and waste precious time. but she herself did not realize it. if anyone dared to prevent her from speaking or get in some words to cut her short, she would get angry and criticize him severely.①my friend said regretfully②,“i would rather be regarded as a bad student. only in this way could i make free use of my precious time.”such a remark sounds discouraging. but such things not only happen in my friend's school, but also in many offices and units. everyone must always bear in mind③that time is money, time means life. today,if one still enjoys a two-hour meeting over a cup of tea and a cigarette,he is wasting his life, and the lives of others as well.
in fact people had taken measures to cut the meetings short before. a japanese tycoon once suggested that his officials keep standing during the meetings. it was reported as “getting rid of chairs”. in the united states, there was once a kind of two-minute meetings. and in my class the monitor once had us stand during a class meeting, just as the tycoon did. although it seemed funny,it showed that we were all fed up with④ unnecessary long meetings.
time is money; time is life. we must all treat time as a treasure, especially in our modern world.
laconic meetings,or no meetings at all.
As English is one of the main subjects that the Chinese students have to take up, learning English becomes prevalence. More and more students find it hard to learn English, because it is fresh to them. Depending on different personality, experience and background, different people may have different menthods to learn English. In my opinion, interest and practice are the best ways to learn English.
Firstly, interest is the best teacher. No matter who wants learn or do something, interest is the bestcatalyst. Having interest, peole will feel easier to complete things. So does learning English. If any one feels difficulty in learning English, the first thing he should consider is to develop his interest on English.
Secondly, practice makes perfect. The most common way to learn English is practise more. Nothing would be difficult with practice. For example, if someone find it hard to remember vocabulary, he can see the word everyday before he goes to sleep. I’m sure he will remember words quickly.
All in all, there is no fast way to learn English well, except work hard. But if people have interest on English and knows the importance of practice, they will master it sooner or later.
高一英語作文How to learn English篇3
Some people seem to have a gift for learning languages. They pick up new words, master rules or grammar and learn to write in the new language more quickly than others. They do not seem to be more intelligent than others, so what makes language learning so much easier for them?
First of all, successful language learners are independent learners. They do not depend on the book or the teacher; they discover their own way to learn the language. Instead of waiting for the teacher to explain, they try to find the patterns and the rules for themselves. They are good guessers who look for clues and form their own conclusions. When they guess wrong, they try to learn from their mistakes.
Successful language learning is active learning. Therefore, successful learners do not wait for a chance to use the language; they look for such chances. They find people who speak the language and they ask these people to correct them when they make a mistake. They will try anything to communicate. They are not afraid to repeat what they hear or to say strange things; they’re willing to make mistakes and try again. It is more important for them to learn and think in the language than to know the meaning of every word.
Finally, successful language learners are learners with a purpose. They want to learn the language because they are interested in the language and the people who speak it. It is necessary for them to learn the language in order to communicate with these people and to learn from them. They find it easy to practice using the language regularly because they want to learn with it.
