英語作文 篇1
One day, a student named Tom in Grade One was smoking in the front of the classroom. At that time the headmaster Mr Green saw the student smoking and asked him which grade he was in. He told the headmaster he was in Grade One and that he couldn’t read yet. “ Do you see the slogan ” NO SMOKING “ on the wall? ” the headmaster asked. Students in the school are not allowed to smoke and it’s a bad habit for students to smoke. We know smoking does harm to students’ health. They must get rid of the bad habit as soon as possible.
--
Every year hundreds of thousands of people around the world die from diseases caused by smoking.
One in two lifetime smokers will die from their habit. Half of these deaths will occur in middle age.
Tobacco smoke also contributes to a number of cancers.
The mixture of nicotine and carbon monoxide in each cigarette you smoke temporarily increases your heart rate and blood pressure, straining your heart and blood vessels.
This can cause heart attacks and stroke. It slows your blood flow, cutting off oxygen to your feet and hands. Some smokers end up having their limbs
amputated.
Tar coats your lungs like soot in a chimney and causes cancer. A 20-a-day smoker breathes in up to a full cup (210 g) of tar in a year.
Changing to low-tar cigarettes does not help because smokers usually take deeper puffs and hold the smoke in for longer, dragging the tar deeper into their lungs.
Carbon monoxide robs your muscles, brain and body tissue of oxygen, making your whole body and especially your heart work harder. Over time, your airways swell up and let less air into your lungs.
Smoking causes disease and is a slow way to die. The strain put on your body by smoking often causes years of suffering. Emphysema is an illness that slowly rots your lungs. People with emphysema often get bronchitis again and again, and suffer lung and heart failure.
Lung cancer from smoking is caused by the tar in tobacco smoke. Men who smoke are ten times more likely to die from lung cancer than non-smokers.
Heart disease and strokes are also more common among smokers than non-smokers.
Smoking causes fat deposits to narrow and block blood vessels which leads to heart attack.
Smoking causes around one in five deaths from heart disease.
In younger people, three out of four deaths from heart disease are due to smoking
Please quit smoking for the sake of your health!
英語作文 篇2
Not until a gentleman in this forum mentioned about his age of nearly forty, did I realize myself is also thirty this year!
I didn’t think about my age much, because I believed I was still young and full of enthusiasm. The old admire my youth and the young envy my experiences. I thought I would have another 40 over years to live in this world.
I can’t remember who and when has invented the electronic million-year calendar, but I did see the date when I could never enjoy the sunshine on June 17th, 20xx.It will be Thursday or something, I just can’t remember. Nonetheless, I will try to appreciate every single day I stay alive. I had never thought about these stuffs when I was 20 something, though!
Stability, family and health are the things I would like to talk about with my friends and colleagues. You will hear about husbands, wives, sons and daughters everywhere in my building, and I bet you won’t fed up with them because you care too.
As a mid-age man, I feel lazy to write more. But I do expect you young fellows write more to me and let me know about your thought/opinions or comments on my articles. Your replies are much appreciated by me-Danny.
英語作文 篇3
To choose a new holiday is not easy. There have been many great people throughout history and many important events. Therefore, if I had the opportunity to establish a new holiday, I would do something completely different. Rather than honor a person or a human event, I would choose to celebrate man’s most loyal companions-pets.
In my opinion, establishing a National Pet Day is a good idea for two very important reasons. First, it would remind us of how important animals are to us-not just cats and dogs and other common household pets, but also animals such as horses and those raised in captivity in zoos and animal parks. All of them provide us with a connection to the natural world. In addition, our personal pets give us companionship, devotion and affection. Second, a holiday in honor of our pets would remind us of our responsibilities toward them. Too often these days pets are taken for granted or even neglected when their owners become too busy to pay much attention to them.
These are my suggestions for a new holiday. Although it may seem a little unconventional when compared with holidays that honor important statesmen or religious figures, it would serve to make people recognize an important part of our lives that is too often neglected- the world of animals.
英語作文 篇4
wherever i am, i find it hard to resist the tempting call of my hometown. situated at the north-western tip of in-zhu county, bordering tao-yuan county with a small winding stream is my old hometown, the humble and bleak fishing and farming village. the residents there used to make their living by fishing in their boats on the nearest waters of the taiwan strait. later, those boats were heavily outrun by modern ships. since then, life has never been easy for the villagers, as they have to live off the tiny pieces of land. i often feel that they are peasants rather than farmers. the village is famed for its windy weather, bad for farming but good for the strengthening of character. i can still recall how those salty winds howled all the way through my childhood. but as i now look back upon those tough days and drab rural lives, i feel blessed; i seem to have gone through the ordeal and am capable of facing any hardships. as i am growing older, in my heart, my hometown has become the symbol of the deepest nostalgia and stood for an everlasting affection. i, in turn, can always seek solace through visualizing my lovely hometown.

英語作文 篇7
Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic Sandstorms. You should write at least 150 words, and base your composition on the outline given below:
1. Sandstorms are becoming an urgent problem
2. Possible solutions
Sandstorms
There is no denying the fact that sandstorms have become a grave problem with which we are confronted. Reports are often heard upon sandstorms attacking North China and other parts of the world. Actually, sandstorms have become so widespread that they have severely affected peoples daily life and hindered the development of economy.
A number of factors could account for the rampancy of sandstorms, but the following might be the most critical ones. In the first place, overgrazing and clear-cutting have devastated the vegetation in formerly green mountains and plains. Consequently, desert has spread and become the major source of sandstorms. In the second place, the bare construction cites in cities also contribute to sandstorms.
In view of the seriousness of the situation, effective measures must be taken immediately before things get worse. In the first place, it is imperative that pertinent laws be worked out and rigidly enforced to protect vegetation. In the second place, a deep-going, widespread and ever-lasting campaign should be launched to enhance peoples awareness of environmental protection. With proper laws and an alert public, it will only be a matter of time before sandstorms become things of the past.
