Ladies and gentlemen
Good afternoon, today my topic is Academic integrity, starting with me。Academic integrity is a fundamental value upon which colleges and universities are built. Students, faculty and staff are expected to contribute frank opinions, and other academic exercises that are vital to sustaining the discussion and exchange of ideas. For learning and scholarship to thrive, academic communities cannot tolerate acts of academic dishonesty, such as cheating, misrepresentation.
there are four fundamental values that characterize an academic community of integrity:
Honesty. The quest for truth and knowledge requires intellectual and personal honesty in learning, teaching, research and service.
Trust. Academic institutions must foster a climate of mutual trust in order to stimulate the free exchange of ideas.
Fairness. All interactions among students, faculty and administrators should be grounded in clear standards, practices and procedures.
Respect. Learning is acknowledged as a participatory process, and a wide range of opinions and ideas is respected.
As graduate students, academic integrity is particularly important in the future when We expected to service to others and our societies. So How do we maintain academic integrity?
First,We make the effort to understand what counts as dishonesty and why this is wrong. Then,We work hard to master the rules of academic disciplines and achieve personal academic outcomes that we can be proud .
Meanwhile,We appreciate the value of critical thinking and,a positive attitude,We take a problem—solving approach to learning, combining theory and practice in sophisticated ways
At last,we should have the habit of developing new ideas and new ways of seeing, understanding, expressing, and communicating

It is true that most of us value honesty highly. However, nowadays we often confront confidence crisis such as cheating, overcharging, fake commodities and so on. I think that we should be honest because being honest is not only beneficial to ourselves but also to others and the whole society. The reasons can be listed as follows.Firstly, only honest people can be truly respected by the others and can make more friends over a long period of time.
Secondly, honesty, which is the traditional virtue of the Chinese people, can make our life easier and more harmonious. Thirdly, honesty can make our society more stable. A case in point is that Singapore,a society featuring trustworthiness and integrity, has a comparatively low criminal rate.
Responsbility can be understood in many ways. for the parents, they have had the responsibility for caring for and fostering their children since the birth of their baby.for teachers, both in kindergartens and colleges, they also should be responsible for the study and life of their students, that is to say, teahers are the second parents of children somewhile.
for us,as a friend of others,it is our responsibility to help our friends when they are in trouble or faced with difficulties. each one has the different responsibily based on their roles but we must take it for granted that we are responsible for the society.

Almost all of us heard the story “Here Comes the Wolf” when we were little kids. What we can learn from the story is that we must be honest. However, there’re lots of phenomena of dishonesty nowadays.
Being dishonest does great harm not only to other people but also to yourself. Take the case of fake milk powder for example. After drinking this kind of milk, the babies had big heads while their legs and arms were still thin, which badly affected their health. To our great relief, the producers got accused and punished for all the serious consequences in the end.
Having the reputation of being honest and reliable will make other people trust you, which will provide you many benefits and give you opportunities that others may not get. Being honest, you will find it easier to cooperate with others and people will be friendly to you and support you. In a sense,if life is a longjourney, honesty will be the backpack that should be taken along all the way.
Let’s pick up our “backpack”—honesty, and start the wonderful journey!

A man went to an insurance office to have his life insured. The manager of the office asked him how old his parents were when they died.
“Mother had a bad heart and died at the age of thirty. Father died of tuberculosis when he was thirty—five.”
“I am very sorry,”said the manager,“we cannot insure your life as your parents were not healthy.”
As the man was leaving the office, depressed,he met a clerk, who had overheard the conversation.
“You must not be so frank and tell the truth,”said the clerk,“no office will insure you if you speak like that. Use your imagination a little.”
The man went to another office and was shown into the manager's room.
“Well, young man,how old were your parents when they died?”
“Mother was ninety—three, and she died from a fall off her bicycle. Father was ninety—eight and he died while he was playing football.”

Ladies and Gentlemen:
My name is XXX。Today,My topic is Honesty.
As a correspondent of the Qingdao Morning News,I visited Dr. James Gilman, the President of the International Committee for Marco Polo Studies in England. In this picture, this is James, and this is me and we are looking at a dragon’s tooth. This is a true story.
65 years ago,James lived in Qingdao. Then he was only 5 years old. He often visited the Aquarium and was fascinated by a creature on display there, which he thought was a dragon. He was afraid of its sharp teeth and wanted one to keep as a treasure.
In the late 1930s,when the Japanese occupied Qingdao, his family had to leave. On his last day in Qingdao,he ran to the Aquarium and pulled out one of the teeth from the dragon’s mouth.
He kept the tooth for the next 65 years, but the feeling of guilt at having stolen it was there in the background all through his life. It was always on his conscience, and the feeling intensified as he became older. Finally he decided to put right his childish error. In 20xx,he visited Qingdao and returned it to the Aquarium with his sincere apologies. He received a warm welcome.
When James visited Qingdao,I accompanied him all the time and reported on his visit. I was deeply touched by his honesty. It has taught me a lot. I think to err is human. The important thing is to have the courage to admit and correct one’s error.
Honesty is a vital quality of human behaviour. So we should try to keep an honest mind in everything we say and do. I would like to say to all of my friends:Let’s be honest people of good moral character.
